Jean-Jacques Cabou

Jean-Jacques "J" Cabou focuses on criminal defense work, particularly cases involving asset forfeiture, racketeering, money laundering, and other financial crimes. J is a recognized expert on Arizona's civil forfeiture and racketeering laws, and, in addition to representing clients prosecuted under these laws, J regularly advises other attorneys, individuals, and corporations in cases in which these broad, intricate statutes are implicated. J also maintains a civil practice focusing on complex commercial and constitutional matters, in both trial and appellate courts.

J is an Adjunct Professor at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University and a gubernatorial appointee to the 9-member Citizen's Traffic Stop Advisory Board. He is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice.

In 2005 and 2006, while on leave of absence from Osborn Maledon, J served as Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley's Assistant for Public Safety. In that capacity, he worked directly with the Mayor, the Chief of Staff, and the Department commissioners to formulate, implement, and oversee public safety policy for the City of Chicago. While in Chicago, J was also on the faculty of the University of Chicago Law School as a Lecturer in Law, teaching a course entitled The Law, Policy, and Politics of Policing. J was also recognized by the Chicago Police Department for outstanding contributions to public safety.

J earned his bachelor's degree in Government and Foreign Affairs with high honors from the University of Virginia and his Doctor of Law degree from the University of Chicago. After law school, J was a judicial clerk to Chief Judge Mary M. Schroeder of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
