Vice Chief Justice Pelander steps down as Vice Chief; Brutinel to become Vice Chief

Vice Chief Justice Pelander has resigned his position as Vice Chief Justice and therefore will not become Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court.  The Daily Courier reports that because of mandatory retirement-age rules, Vice Chief Justice Pelander would not be able to serve a full term as Chief and that he thought it would be better for the Court if someone could serve a full term as Chief.

The Justices elected Justice Brutinel to be the new Vice Chief Justice at the Arizona Supreme Court’s January 24, 2018 conference.

On behalf of AzAPP, we thank Justice Pelander for his service as Vice Chief Justice and wish Vice Chief Justice Brutinel well in his new role.
