10 Applicants Being Considered for Arizona Court of Appeals.

The public is asked for comments on 10 applicants for two openings on Division I of the Arizona Court of Appeals created by the retirement of Judge Daniel Barker and the resignation of Judge Patrick Irvine. 

The applicants are Stephen M. Hopkins, Randall M. Howe, Jacqueline H. Jeffery, A. Douglas LaSota, Foster Robberson, Maria Salapska, Judith R. Schaffert, Gary M. Smith, Samuel A. Thumma, and Lori L. Voepel. Their applications can be viewed online at http://www.azcourts.gov/jnc.

The Commission on Appellate Court Appointments will review the applications and hear comments at a public meeting on February 6. The meeting will be held at the Arizona State Courts Building in Phoenix, 1501 W. Washington, Conference Room 101, starting at 11:00 a.m.  Citizens may address the commission at that time or send written comments to 1501 W. Washington, Suite 221, Phoenix, AZ, 85007 or to jnc@courts.az.gov.  Comments must be received by February 3 to be considered.  Anonymous comments cannot be considered.

At the February 6 meeting, the commission will decide which applicants will be interviewed for the openings.  The selected applicants will be interviewed on February 27. After the interviews, the commission will recommend at least three nominees for each opening to Governor Jan Brewer, who will appoint the new judges.
