JUDICIAL NOMINEES ANNOUNCED

The Maricopa County Commission on Trial Court Appointments has recommended nine candidates to Governor Jan Brewer for two openings on the Maricopa County Superior Court.

Nominees for the opening created by the retirement of Judge Maria del Mar Verdin are: Theodore Campagnolo, 60, Democrat, of Scottsdale, Assistant Attorney General with the Arizona Attorney General’s Office; Edith Lucero, 45, Democrat, of Phoenix, an Administrative Law Judge for the Arizona Department of Transportation; Carolyn Passamonte, 62, Republican, of Phoenix, a Commissioner with the Maricopa County Superior Court; and, Timothy Thomason, 54, Republican, of Mesa, a partner at Dickinson Wright/Mariscal Weeks.

Nominees for the opening created by the retirement of Judge Harriett Chavez are: Stephen Hopkins, 53, Republican, of Phoenix, Sole Practitioner in the firm of Hopkins Law Offices, P.L.C.; Lori Horn Bustamante, 42, Republican, of Phoenix, a Commissioner with the Maricopa County Superior Court; Steven P. Lynch, 50, Democrat, of Chandler, a Commissioner with the Maricopa County Superior Court; Rachel Mitchell, 46, Republican, of Phoenix, Bureau Chief of Sex Crimes at the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office; and, Shellie Smith, 51, Democrat, of Phoenix, a Commissioner with the Maricopa County Superior Court.

Governor Brewer will make the appointments.
