Seven Applicants for Vacancy on Arizona Court of Appeals – 2/7/2020

The Commission on Appellate Court Appointments seeks public input on the seven candidates being considered to fill the vacancy on Division One of the Arizona Court of Appeals created by the resignation of Judge Diane Johnsen.

The Commission on Appellate Court Appointments narrowed the list of applicants to fill the vacancy on Division One of the Arizona Court of Appeals created by Judge Johnsen’s resignation.  The Commission seeks public input on the following candidates:

  • Hon. Cynthia Bailey, a Maricopa County Superior Court Judge
  • Michael S. Catlett of Quarles & Brady, LLP
  • Hon. Christopher A. Coury, a Maricopa County Superior Court Judge
  • Michael G. Kielsky of Udall Shumway, PLC
  • Hon. Daniel J. Kiley, a Maricopa County Superior Court Judge
  • Hon. Joseph P. Mikitish, a Maricopa County Superior Court Judge
  • Hon. Joshua D. Rogers, a Maricopa County Superior Court Judge

The Commission will review the applications and hear public comments on February 10, 2020.  During the meeting, the Commission will decide which applicants to interview.  These interviews will take place on February 25, 2020.  Afterward, the Commission will send at least three nominees to Governor Ducey for consideration and appointment.
