Four Osborn Maledon Partners Named ‘Lawyer of the Year’

October 3, 2012

Best Lawyers, the oldest and most respected peer-review publication in the legal profession, has named four Osborn Maledon, P.A. partners as 2013 Lawyers of the Year. Tom Curzon was recognized as “Phoenix Corporate Law Lawyer of the Year,” Brett Dunkelman was honored as “Phoenix Litigation-Patent Lawyer of the Year,” Larry Hammond was selected “Phoenix Criminal Defense: White-Collar Lawyer of the Year” and Bill Maledon was named “Phoenix Litigation-Antitrust Lawyer of the Year”.

Best Lawyers annually designates “Lawyers of the Year” in high-profile legal specialties in large legal communities. The designation is distinct because only a single lawyer in each specialty in each community is honored as the “Lawyer of the Year.”

All four Osborn Maledon attorneys frequently are recognized on a variety of lawyer-ranking lists as outstanding attorneys in their fields, and five firm lawyers–including Curzon, Dunkelman, and Maledon–have been selected in previous years. Mark Harrison and David Rosenbaum also have earned the designation in previous years.

Best Lawyers compiles its lists of outstanding attorneys by conducting peer-review surveys in which leading lawyers confidentially evaluate their peers. Earlier this year, the publication recognized 26 firm attorneys as among the best in Arizona.

The four attorneys recognized this year have varied practices:

Curzon’s practice focuses primarily on serving as outside general counsel to emerging, growth-oriented companies and on entrepreneurial transactions. He was recognized as Phoenix Corporate Lawyer of the Year in 2009 and as Phoenix Mergers and Acquisitions Lawyer of the year in 2011.

Dunkelman is experienced in alternative dispute resolution, antitrust and trade regulation counseling and litigation, commercial litigation, and intellectual property litigation. He was recognized as Phoenix Litigation – Intellectual Property Lawyer of the Year in 2011 and 2012.

Hammond has spent over 30 years practicing criminal law in the private sector, where he is recognized nationally for his expertise. He previously as an Assistant Watergate Special Prosecutor in 1973-1974 and then as the First Deputy Assistant Attorney General under both Attorneys General Griffin Bell and Ben Civiletti.

Maledon has extensive experience in both federal and state courts in a wide variety of cases, including antitrust and trade regulation cases, product liability cases, insurance coverage and insurance bad faith cases, class actions, securities cases, sports cases, and various other complex commercial cases, as well as in appellate matters in both federal and state courts. He was recognized as Phoenix Commercial Litigation Lawyer of the year in 2012, Phoenix Antitrust Lawyer of the Year in 2011, and as Phoenix Bet-the-Company Litigation Lawyer of the Year in 2010.
