The goal of our Summer Program is to give each summer associate a true sense of the Firm’s unique culture and what it means to be a lawyer at OM. Our summer associates are directly involved in our practice, including legal research and writing, depositions, oral arguments, and settlement negotiations.

Our summer associates are genuinely interested in practicing law in Arizona and are recruited from top law schools around the country during Fall and Spring OCIs. We choose our summer associates based on their academic achievements, work and leadership experience, written and oral communication skills, and service to the community.

Summer Associate Program

Our Summer Program provides many opportunities for our summer associates to interact with our lawyers and each other. We hold a variety of programs to inform summer associates about the firm’s work and areas of practice.

We encourage our summer associates to self-select their projects based on their interests, which enables them to work with a variety of attorneys within different areas of practice and is designed to provide meaningful work on actual cases.

Summer associates are partnered with a Mentor and Reader to provide guidance, feedback and to assist with integration.  This partnership provides each student with a better understanding of the firm’s expectations and culture while providing opportunities for feedback and professional development.

To give our summer associates a taste of life beyond the law, we also host a variety of social and volunteer activities.

Judicial Clerkships

We value judicial clerkships and provide advice and mentorship to summer associates about clerking.

What Happens After the Summer Program?

We use our 1L and 2L Summer Program as the basis for making offers for a return to our summer program (1L) and for making offers for full-time associate positions (2L). At the close of the Summer Program, we hold a firm-wide meeting at which all attorneys discuss each candidate’s summer experience and work product. We consider several criteria in extending offers, including evaluations of the candidate’s written projects, the candidate’s interactions with other attorneys, and the candidate’s law school achievements.

Commitment to Diversity

As a firm, we are dedicated to providing an inclusive professional work environment where people of diverse backgrounds and perspectives pool their talents and successes. For this reason, we strongly encourage diverse candidates to apply for these positions. We best serve our clients and community when we have the opportunity to collaborate openly with colleagues with varied points of view and approaches to deliver creative and effective solutions for our clients.
